Former Tiger Faces Offseason Test for Rams

The battle for a roster spot is never-ending and a former Clemson Tiger will have to prove himself again.

Davis Allen was a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. As a Los Angeles Ram, it took time for him to produce. After no catches over the first eight games, he saw more snaps before having a breakout game with 50 yards and a touchdown against Baltimore Dec. 10.

Following that production, Allen had two catches for 28 yards in the Rams’ lone playoff game. Year 2 will be a test for Allen as the competition gets deeper. Tyler Higbee is the undoubted starter and the addition of proven Colby Parkinson knocks him to at least the No. 3 spot.

RamblinFan released a potential player on the bubble at each position and Allen was predicted as the one on the edge, He’ll be competing with Hunter Long for the third spot unless Los Angeles elects to keep four tight ends.

Tyler Higbee is the unquestioned starting tight end, but Colby Parkinson is behind him as another guy the Rams will probably try and feature a bit. Then, you have Hunter Long, a former third-round pick by the Dolphins who had struggled with injuries but now looks to keep a gig and hopefully his health will allow for it.

Davis Allen, a fifth-round pick in 2023, might make this roster as a fourth tight end. But, the odds of the Rams keeping four might not be too high. As a rookie last year, Allen did come up with 10 receptions for 95 yards and his lone career touchdown.

Time will tell for Allen, and the mix of a strong camp and preseason would secure his place. It’ll be a key time for Allen as he’s proven he can produce, but the competition gets steeper.
