CLEMSON- Jacob Jarrell’s bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth plated pinch runner Tristan McCladdie, helping push No. 4 Clemson to a 10-0 run-rule win over Boston College on Saturday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
With the win, the Tigers finish the regular season at 40-13 overall and 20-10 in ACC play. It is just the seventh time that Clemson has won 20 regular season conference games and the first time the program has hit the 40-win mark in the regular season since 2018.
It is the first time since the 2005 and 2006 seasons that the program’s had back-to-back 20-win regular seasons in conference play and just the third time in history overall.
Aidan Knaak had another masterful performance in picking up his fifth win (5-1). The freshman struck out the side in each of the first two innings, before finishing with a career-high 11 strikeouts in six innings of work. He scattered seven hits and did not walk a batter.
After being held scoreless over the first four innings, the Tigers finally got to Eagles’ starting pitcher Michael Farinelli in the bottom of the fifth. Nolan Nawrocki was hit by a pitch to start the frame, then stole second. He would then take third on an obstruction call, before coming home on a wild pitch to score the game’s first run. After working a one-out walk, Alden Mathes would score later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Blake Wright to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Clemson would add to the lead in the bottom of the sixth, getting an RBI single by Jacob Jarrell and a sacrifice fly by Nawrocki to make it 4-0.
The Tigers would push across three more in the seventh, making it 7-0. Wright launched a solo shot out to left to lead off the inning, his team-leading 21st homer of the season and his second in as many days. Tristan Bissetta would drive in another run with an RBI double and another run would score on a fielder’s choice by Jarrell.
With the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the eighth, Cam Cannarella drove in two when he laced a single into right and giving the Tigers a 9-0 advantage.
Lucas Mahlstedt would relieve Knaak to start the seventh and hold the Eagles scoreless over the final two innings of play.
