Billy Barlow Bakich Talks Clemson’s ‘Superpower’ After Yet Another Comeback Win

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — No. 3 Clemson overcame a 6-0 deficit, defeating Louisville 8-7 in the ACC Tournament at Truist Field on Friday thanks to a walk-off walk by Jimmy Obertop after he tied the game with a three-run home run in the eighth inning.

The Tigers improved to 41-14, while the Cardinals fell to 32-24.

Following the game, Clemson head coach Erik Bakich discussed the spirited effort of his team that was on full display in another comeback win — the Tigers’ 24th comeback win in 2024.

“Hard-fought game. It seems like we’ve had a few of these now with Louisville in just the last few weeks. … That’s a regional team. They’re a quality club, and those are hard victories to get over Coach (Dan McDonnell) and his staff and that team. They are as tough as anybody,” Bakich said.

“Today was really a tale of two games. I thought we came out flat. They jumped us with six runs right away, down 6-0. But the superpower of this team is the believability that they’re going to come back, and it took a while for us to mount it. … But really proud of our club. We make it very hard on ourselves at times, but they have that ‘it’ factor, and they’ve found a way to come back now 24 times. So, we’re not going to give any of them away, and I just love the fight of this team and I know it’ll bode well for us going into next week.”
