CLEMSON — On Sunday, Clemson learned it will be hosting an NCAA Baseball Regional this weekend at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson. On Monday, the Tigers found out who they will play and if they earned a top-8 national seed in the NCAA Tournament.
The Tigers (41-14) learned they are the No. 6 overall seed and the No. 1 seed in the Clemson Regional.
Here is the Clemson Regional, which will begin on Friday:
No. 1 Clemson vs. No. 4 High Point
No. 2 Vanderbilt vs. No. 3. Coastal Carolina
Clemson was one of 16 programs selected to host an NCAA regional, announced Sunday night by the NCAA.
This year marks the 18th time in Clemson baseball history that the program hosts a regional and second year in a row. The Tigers are making their 46th NCAA Tournament appearance overall, fifth most in NCAA history.
Clemson is looking to advance out of an NCAA Regional for the first time since 2010, when it won the Auburn Regional. The Tigers have failed to win a regional in each of their last 10 tries.
Five of those 10 regional losses have been at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, and this year’s regional marks the fifth time since 2016 Clemson has hosted a regional.
The last time the Tigers won a home regional was in 2009 when they rallied through the losers’ bracket and took down Oklahoma State twice to advance to the Super Regional round.
Clemson has not won the first two games of a regional since 2011 when the Tigers won the first two games of the Clemson Regional that year before losing two straight to UConn in the regional finals.
