Clemson landed in the top 10 of this updated ranking of every team in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
The latest NCAA re-rank from USA TODAY Sports has the Tigers as the No. 9 team overall in the FBS coming out of the spring.
That’s nine spots higher than the No. 18 ranking the Tigers (9-4, 4-4 ACC in 2023) received in the final NCAA re-rank from USA TODAY following the end of last season.
To cap off last season, Clemson overcame an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit for a 38-35 win over Kentucky in the Gator Bowl at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. on Dec. 29.
As a result of the victory, the Tigers finished the 2023 season on a five-game winning streak and boasting a postseason victory in an FBS-record 13 straight seasons. Last year also marked Clemson’s 13th consecutive season with nine or more wins, the nation’s second-longest active streak.
Georgia is the top-ranked team in the updated USA TODAY re-rank, with Ohio State, Texas, Oregon and Notre Dame rounding out the top five.
Clemson, of course, will open the 2024 season against Georgia in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Aug. 31 (12 p.m., ABC).
The Tigers are the second highest-ranked ACC team in the updated USA TODAY re-rank, behind defending conference champion Florida State (No. 8).
The next highest-ranked ACC teams after Clemson are Louisville (No. 16), Virginia Tech (No. 20), NC State (No. 22), Miami (No. 24) and North Carolina (No. 30).
Clemson came in at No. 10 in the way-too-early top 25 after spring that was released by USA TODAY earlier this month.
