Clemson Headed to First Super Regional in 14 years

CLEMSON – The Clemson Tigers are headed to the Super Regional Round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.

The Tigers, the No. 6 national seed, advanced to the program’s first Super Regional since 2010 with a 12-5 victory over Coastal Carolina in the Clemson Regional Finals Sunday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Clemson (44-14) advanced to host the Clemson Super Regional at Doug Kingsmore Stadium against the winner of the Stillwater Regional. The best-of-three series begins either Friday or Saturday. Game dates and times will be announced by the NCAA.

This is the first time Clemson has won a home regional since 2009 and the first time since 2009 the Tigers won three straight games to win a regional.

This year marks the Tigers 10th trip to a Super Regional all-time and the first since the 2010 season, when they finished third in the College World Series.

Clemson last won a regional in 2010, when it knocked off Auburn in the Auburn Regional Finals. The Tigers went on to host the Clemson Super Regional that year against Alabama.

The Tigers beat the Crimson Tide twice in the three-game series, including a series-clinching 8-6 victory.

As mentioned, Clemson has been to a Super Regional nine times before. The Tigers have a 4-5 record all-time in the Super Regional round. The NCAA did not begin the Super Regional round until 1999.

From 1999-2010, Clemson was in a Super Regional nine times in 12 years.

Clemson has advanced to the CWS in Omaha, Neb., 12 times in history, but has not played in the CWS since the Tigers’ run in 2010.
