4-Star WR Target Calls Clemson Culture ‘Super Different’

For the first time since last summer Cortez Mills made it back to Clemson.

The 4-star wideout (Homestead, Fl) was one of just two wide receivers to attend the Tigers’ big official visit weekend, with Mills coming away impressed by the family-like feel inside the program.

“The visit went great,” Mills told The Clemson Insider. “It’s a great program and I just enjoyed my time there. Just showed me the culture is super different, and there’s no other college that’s like that.”

While Mills felt like he already had a good idea as to what Clemson represented heading into the visit, he was still able to learn more about Dabo Swinney’s program.

“Really seeing what Clemson is about,” Mills said. “And knowing going to Clemson, it’s a great program. Being on the football field, you’re gonna be surrounded by great people, and the atmosphere is through the roof.”

Receivers coach Tyler Grisham made sure to impress upon Mills what wideouts like Antonio Williams and Tyler Brown were able to accomplish as freshmen over the past two seasons and the blue-chip wideout took notice.

“He’s always telling me he’s gonna play freshmen and stuff, and he also showed me the proof,” Mills said. “So that’s what makes me believe in him. That’s what makes me feel like he is a great coach.”

Mills still has officials set with Florida (June 7), Oklahoma (June 14) and Miami (June 21) and as he takes these final round of visits, he says each of the schools are still on equal footing.

“I mean, the communication, (Clemson) contacts me every day, but I ain’t gonna really say there’s a school that’s really standing out yet,” Mills said. Because if it was, I’d be committed right now. So I’d say all the schools are equal.”

Mills is hoping to sit down and make a decision before the start of his senior season and one of the biggest things he is looking for is a culture that fits him the best, as well as an offensive scheme he can excel in.

“I just want to go somewhere where I feel comfortable at,” Mills said. “Trusting the receiver coach, the coaching staff. Who’s gonna help develop me on and off the field. That’s really about it. I just want to go somewhere I’m comfortable at and a place that the coaches are not just communicating with me, but also with my family. So my family will know that I’m 100% good wherever I go.”
