Hayden Ross made his first ever visit to Clemson this summer.
The rising high school senior, out of North Davidson (Clemmons, NC), made the short trek to the Upstate in early June to work out at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp.
“It is different because it is a camp that teaches you how to refine yourself to be better,” Ross told The Clemson Insider. “It’s not just a showcase camp like most of the ones I have been to.”
Ross. who plays both ways in high school, worked out at both wide receiver and tight end and came out of the camp believing the experience will make him a better player.
“Mostly about things that I could have done better in the drills,” Ross said of the feedback he received. “Such as hip sinking on breaks, better things for ball security and several new drills trying to help with run after catch.”
Ross also attended camp at the Manning Passing Academy this summer, as well as making stops at Wake Forest and NC State, among others. When comparing Clemson to other schools out there, it’s Swinney’s portal philosophy that separates the Tigers.
“Clemson gives a better chance to high school players because they do not heavily recruit the transfer portal,” he said. “They are a very family-oriented program.”
Among the opportunities Ross might have at the next level, one coming from Clemson could be a difference-maker.
“It would mean a ton,” Ross said. “I couldn’t really explain how much it would mean. It would show that my work has paid off in making me a player they would consider and that the team believes I have what it takes to play in college.”
