DeAndre Hopkins was among the former Clemson stars on hand Saturday at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium to take in the Tigers’ season opener against Georgia.
The longtime NFL wide receiver took to social media Saturday afternoon, calling out Clemson’s offense that struggled mightily in the 14th-ranked Tigers’ 34-3 loss to the No. 1 Bulldogs.
“Clemson has all these playmakers but only 3 points. Something has to change,” Hopkins wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Clemson trailed just 6-0 at halftime before being outscored 28-3 over the final two quarters.
The Tigers managed only 188 yards of total offense, with their lone points of the contest coming on Nolan Hauser’s 26-yard field goal in the third quarter.
The three points tied for the fewest in a game under Swinney (since 2008).
Hopkins, 32, has amassed 928 catches for 12,355 yards and 78 touchdowns in his 11-year pro career with the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans since being selected by the Texans in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
A five-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler, Hopkins is entering his second year with the Titans. He concluded his first campaign in Tennessee with the seventh 1,000-plus-yard season of his career (75 catches for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns).
The Clemson legend had 206 receptions for 3,020 yards and 27 touchdowns in his career as a Tiger from 2010-12.
