CLEMSON — The Clemson offense failed to capitalize on drives and build momentum in last week’s loss to Georgia.
The Tigers mustered only 188 yards of total offense in their defeat, with one 66-yard drive resulting in their only points, a 26-yard field goal courtesy of freshman kicker Nolan Hauser.
Following the loss, critics have ventured that the talents of wide receivers Tyler Brown, Bryant Wesco, and T.J. Moore were squandered in the loss.
However, Brown is not concerned with the number of catches he had against the Bulldogs. His focus is looking forward and, ultimately, winning when the Tigers host App State Saturday (8 p.m., ACCN) in No. 25 Clemson’s home opener.
Brown explained he has full confidence in the playmakers on this team, and his focus is not on how many targets he has in a quarter, half, or full game.
“I’m focused on winning every time I’m on the field, so touches aren’t really a big thing for me,” he said. “You know, we see a lot of guys make plays in practice and as we progress as an offense we’re going to spread it more.”
Brown burst onto the college football scene last season and earned All-American Freshman Honors from ESPN. The Greenville native led the team in both receptions and receiving yards, accounting for four touchdowns and 531 total yards of offense.
Though he did not have his first reception against the Bulldogs until the last possession of the third quarter, Brown is not concerned about his or his team’s future. He believes that as the offense settles in, the talented wide receiving corps will shine.
“A lot of people are doubting us. I just say don’t give up on us,” he said. “We’ve got the guys to make the plays.”
