Wesco Details Decision to Play at Clemson

CLEMSON- Chalk up one more for the Clemson culture.

It’s a culture that has been raved about going back many years by players, coaches and recruits. It is a culture that is still attracting blue-chip talent despite the ever-changing landscape in college football and the shift towards a more transactional world, where many players make decisions based on the best financial offer.

However, there are still players out there that are looking for some of the other things that make college life so special to go along with the NIL opportunities. There are still some that see the value in a degree and freshman wideout Bryant Wesco is one of those players.

It was the culture that Dabo Swinney has cultivated inside the Clemson program that attracted him to the Tigers and ultimately won the former 5-star recruit over.

“That was a big part of what separated it most,” Wesco said. “I probably wouldn’t have chosen any other school other than (Clemson) to play football.”

At Clemson, part of the focus is preparing players for life after football, whenever that might be, and that was something Wesco could not overlook.

“Here it was more than football,” Wesco said. “It was about academics. It was about faith. It was about what are you going to do if you don’t make it to the NFL. They were just more focused on your well-being as a person than a football player. That was really what drove me to Clemson and brought me here.”

Wesco was a consensus Top 100 player coming out of high school and one of the top receiver prospects in his class. Despite playing in a triple option offense at Midlothian (TX), many teams around the country wanted him. Southern Cal, Tennessee, Oregon and Texas, just to name a few.

At the end of the day, Wesco would decide Clemson was the best fit. He committed to the Tigers in the summer of 2023 just after attending the big official visit weekend.

Since arriving on campus back in January, the experience has been everything he expected and then some.

“And more. It’s been a lot,” Wesco said. “All the things they show you on the visits and they show you when they are recruiting you, that is what you get when you are here. it is nothing any different.”
