The latest AP Top 25 Poll was released Sunday after Week 4 of the college football season.
Following Saturday’s 59-35 victory over NC State, Clemson (2-1, 1-0 ACC) moved up four spots to No. 17 in the updated AP Poll.
The Tigers were previously ranked No. 21 in the AP Poll after their open date last Saturday, Sept. 14.
This marks the 501st time that Clemson has been ranked in an AP Poll since the poll’s inception in 1936. Last week, the Tigers became the 18th program ever to be ranked in 500 AP Polls all-time.
On Saturday against the Wolfpack at Death Valley, an explosive offense and opportunistic defense helped Clemson become the 14th FBS program and first in the ACC to win 800 games. In the 92nd installment of the Textile Bowl, junior quarterback Cade Klubnik continued his strong play, leading the Tigers to touchdowns on seven of his nine drives, accounting for four of them in helping Clemson finish with 254 passing yards and 269 yards on the ground.
The Tiger defense forced two first-quarter turnovers and the offense was able to capitalize, jumping out to a 28-0 lead after the first quarter and a 45-7 halftime lead. Defensively, the Tigers forced two first-quarter fumbles deep in NC State territory and cornerback Ashton Hampton added a 53-yard interception for a touchdown late in the third quarter. Clemson finished with eight tackles for loss, including four from freshman linebacker Sammy Brown and two from sophomore defensive end T.J. Parker, who also forced a fumble on his sack in the first quarter.
Clemson will wrap up its current three-game homestand this Saturday, Sept. 28 when the Tigers face Stanford on Homecoming. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff on ESPN.
