Donovan Murph was the first receiver in the 2026 class to pick up an offer from Clemson after an impressive showing at camp back in June.
The 4-star in-state recruit (Irmo) was back on campus for the Tigers’ blowout win over NC State on Saturday and despite the heat, a good time was had by all.
Murph got some one-on-one time with Dabo Swinney and Tyler Grisham, with both making him feel like he was a priority.
“It was great,” Murph told The Clemson Insider. “I got to talk to coach Swinney a little bit. Kicked it with coach Grisham. It was a good time, but it was kind of hot. It was still good though.”
Murph is one of the top prospects in the state, ranking as high as No. 108 overall. He is averaging more than 100 receiving yards per game and Grisham was on hand for his 10-catch performance against Myrtle Beach on Friday night.
While he has always been high on Clemson, seeing the offensive resurgence in the last two games has Murph seeing the Tigers in a different light.
“It definitely changed my perspective on them,” Murph said. “I think they are finally hitting that stride of hitting that of old Clemson football with DeAndre Hopkins and those days. You got guys running wide open.”
And seeing the freshmen receivers having opportunities early has him confident he could have an immediate impact.
“I could definitely see myself coming in and making an impact early,” he said. “Coach Grisham and them, they have definitely told me that as well. And in that offense they know how to get their playmakers the ball. Especially lately, they have been able to get young guys involved.”
The blue-chip talent was at South Carolina the weekend before his Clemson visit. He has also visited North Carolina. Auburn, Alabama and Tennessee will all get future visits as well. However, Murph says for the most part he is spending this fall focused on his high school team at Irmo, and their goal of winning a state title.
“We are a way better team,” he said. “We got way, way more pieces than we did last year. I think we will have a chance at a state championship.”
These game day visits are designed to give Murph a better feel for the culture that exists inside of all of these programs and how he might potentially fit in at the school. What he saw in Clemson on Saturday has him feeling good about Dabo Swinney’s program.
“Just getting a feel for the culture,” Murph said. “How guys interact with each other. How coach Grisham, how hands on he is with his receivers and on these visits I like to look at that as well. That is what I like about coach Grisham, how hands on he is with his guys. How much he does for his players.”
“How much the head coach interacts with his players. And how much the guys like one another. You don’t want to be in a locker room with a bunch of guys that don’t like one another. And I definitely was able to see a lot of that this weekend.”
Murph said he is hoping to have a decision made at some point next year, and that he has a group of schools that he is currently focusing on. While he didn’t reveal those schools, he did say Clemson was one.
It’s the family-like feel inside the program that really resonates and Murph got an up close look at it on Saturday when the entire team celebrated Adam Randall’s first touchdown catch.
“Just the way everybody is family-oriented,” Murph said. “I definitely saw the culture. Coach Swinney congratulating one of the guys that was playing through an injury but still wanted to be there for his guys. That was something that I was able to see. Just the locker room and how everything was done, they definitely did a good job of letting the recruits see everything and no hiding anything from them. It made a difference and I was able to get a feel for it.”
