During his weekly radio show Monday night, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney shared an update on Adam Randall after his surgery.
Swinney said Randall had surgery at 5:45 a.m. Monday morning. The junior wide receiver underwent a procedure to put a screw in his toe after suffering a stress fracture in his toe last week.
“It went great. It went really well,” Swinney said Monday night regarding Randall’s surgery. “We expect him to really respond well. All things Adam Randall – he’s not your normal human being. Typically, anything he’s ever had happen to him, he heals fast. So, hopefully we’ll get him back sooner than later. But want to make sure he’s good and healed up and ready for the stretch run. But I know he wants to get back as soon as possible.”
Following last Saturday’s game vs. NC State, Swinney said that Randall would miss multiple games with his injury, and the hope is to get him back by the Virginia game on Oct. 19.

The Tigers allowed Randall to play in Saturday’s game, as he really wanted to play and was in a position where he wouldn’t make the injury any worse. Against the Wolfpack, despite his broken toe, Randall recorded a team-high and career-high 69 yards on a career-high-tying five receptions with one touchdown.
The former four-star prospect from Myrtle Beach recorded his first career touchdown reception on a 4-yard pass from Cade Klubnik in the third quarter.
“He was a player of the game for us,” Swinney said of Randall. “He and (offensive tackle) Blake Miller were our MVPs of the game. It was good to see him have that type of game, and especially going into it knowing that he’s going to have surgery on Monday. I was really proud of him.”
After a rough season opener against Georgia, Randall has responded with bounce-back performances vs. App State and NC State. For the season, the 6-foot-2, 225-pounder has nine catches for 100 yards and his touchdown.
“He’s one of the best leaders on this team and really, truly cares about Clemson,” Swinney said. “He loves Clemson, and he loves his team. It’s very important to him. He wants to have a great season, and the team is that way. He’s a very selfless kid. I’m really proud of him. He’s had two good games in a row, and hopefully that’ll be good confidence for him, when he gets back he’ll be ready to pick up where he left off.”
