Clemson has a lot to play for

CLEMSON – The No. 9 Clemson Tigers head into their second Bye week of the 2024 season with a lot left on the table.

The Tigers (6-1, 5-0 ACC) are still playing the right to go to the ACC Championship Game, win the league title and earn a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Center Ryan Linthicum spoke with the media earlier this week about how the Tigers plan to make this a “November to Remember” and more.

–While the Tigers continue their win streak in conference play, Linthicum said there is still work to do. “We haven’t done anything yet…we’ve got to make it a November to Remember.” He said the keys to doing that are to “come in and do the little things. Practice makes (perfect). We talk about that every week.”

–The redshirt junior spoke highly of running back Phil Mafah and his success so far this season. Mafah is averaging 6.5 yards per carry with the help of Linthicum and the offensive line. Linthicum said, “if we add it up, we’ve got the best backs in the country…I know Phil is going to get it done if we just do our part up front…he’s a great teammate, great leader, I put my body on the line for Phil and I know he’d do it for me.”

–Continuing into November, Linthicum said that the offensive line needs to continue to be physical. He said their three words are “intelligent, effort, and toughness” and “if we bring those things into practice and games, we’ll set that up for a great November.”

–Clemson has run the “jumbo package” throughout the last few games to ensure getting the first down. Linthicum said he “loves that package” and the Tigers “expect to get that first down” every time they run the play.  He added “I don’t think their linebackers understand how hard Peter [Woods] hits…it’s been good to see Peter excel in that role.”

–Clemson will host Louisville next Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
