Highly-Touted WR Recaps Recent Clemson Visit, Calls Offense ‘Crazy’

Clemson’s atmosphere hit the mark with Myles McAfee during his first visit to campus.

The 4-star wideout (Archbishop Spalding, Washington, DC) visited Clemson for the very first time for the Tigers’ 48-31 win over Virginia. It was a trip that hit the mark with McAfee, with the raucous environment, as well as the family-like feel, just two of the many things that stood out.

“The atmosphere, that was a big one. The fans were going crazy,” McAfee told The Clemson Insider. “Another thing is the receiver coaches, they were getting to know my family. Not just football-wise, not talking about football, but actually getting to know them and me. That was great.”

Another thing that left an impression was Garrett Riley’s high-powered offense, and seeing T.J. Moore making an immediate impact showed the 6-foot wideout that the Tigers are willing to give freshmen receivers ample opportunity to see the field.

“The offense was crazy,” McAfee added. “Clemson’s offense has been going crazy this year.”

After watching Cade Klubnik and the rest of the offense roll up more than 500 yards, McAfee feels like he’d potentially be a very good fit.

“I just see myself making plays like I always do,” he said. “I feel like my route-running ability… I can just go in the slot or outside. I can make plays down the field. Wherever they want to put me I am going to excel.”

McAfee has also taken gameday visits to Ohio State, Duke and Penn State this season. He will be in Virginia Tech for the Hokies matchup with Clemson in less than two weeks and he is hoping to get back to Columbus for the Buckeyes’ rivalry game against Michigan.

When he compares the atmosphere at Clemson to some of the other schools he has visited, the talented wideout believes Death Valley ranks right up there at the top.

“Definitely up there competing… if not the best,” McAfee said. “Because their fans were going crazy.”

Ohio State, Penn State and Maryland are some of the schools the blue-chip talent said were currently recruiting him the hardest. As for Clemson, he consistently hears from the Tigers too, but it’s a relationship that is just getting started.

“They’re trying to build a relationship, not just offer the kids based off ability or anything.” McAfee said. “I mean, that obviously goes into it, but I feel like they’re genuine with the relationships. I think they kind of only offer kids that want to go to Clemson. And I honestly like that.”

McAfee ranks as high as No. 31 overall and No. 13 among all receivers. While Clemson has yet to offer, Ohio State, Penn State, Boston College, Indiana, Virginia Tech and Maryland have all already pulled the trigger. An opportunity to play at Clemson would intrigue McAfee, though. He is familiar with the success some of the Tigers’ receivers have experienced at the college level, as well as in the NFL.

“That’ll mean a lot,” McAfee said. “Because Clemson isn’t just offering people like that. And the receivers, DeAndre Hopkins, Tee Higgins, Sammy Watkins, they have a great resume.”
