NFL Teams Make Roster Moves with Former Tigers

Multiple NFL teams recently made roster moves involving former Clemson Tigers.

This past weekend, the Atlanta Falcons announced they placed defensive tackle Ruke Orhorhoro on injured reserve, while the Buffalo Bills announced the signing of wide receiver Deon Cain to their practice squad.

Also, the Kansas City Chiefs elevated former Clemson wide receiver Justyn Ross from the practice squad to the active roster for Monday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It’s the first game on the active roster this season for Ross, who had six receptions for 53 yards in 10 games with the Chiefs last season.

Once seen as a first-round talent, Ross went undrafted due to injury concerns coming out of Clemson and ended up signing with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2022 before missing all of the 2022 season while on injured reserve with a foot injury.

Ross finished his Clemson career (2018-21) having recorded 158 passes for 2,379 yards with 20 touchdowns across 39 career games (24 starts). The former five-star prospect from Phenix City, Ala., concluded his time at Clemson ranked tied for fifth in school history in career receiving touchdowns, 10th in career receiving yards and 11th in career receptions.

A 2018 sixth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts, Cain’s most recent NFL regular season playing time came in 2020 when he was a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was on the Bills’ preseason roster this year and posted three receptions for 28 yards against the Carolina Panthers.

Along with the Bills, Colts and Steelers, Cain has spent time with the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles in his NFL career. He has appeared in 15 career games, including six starts, and has caught nine passes for 124 yards.

Cain, who earned USFL Championship Game MVP honors with the Birmingham Stallions back in July 2023 after catching three touchdowns, tallied 436 receiving yards, three receiving touchdowns and 726 all-purpose yards for the Stallions this year.

The Tampa, Fla., native had 130 receptions for 2,040 yards and 20 touchdowns over 42 games (14 starts) in his career at Clemson from 2015-17.

As for Orhorhoro, he suffered an ankle injury during the Falcons’ Week 8 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 27.

Orhorhoro was taken by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round (No. 35 overall) on Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft. He has played 63 defensive snaps across four games this season, tallying five total tackles and a quarterback hit.

Orhorhoro appeared in 53 career games at Clemson from 2019-23 with 30 starts. The coaching staff credited him with 97 tackles (25.5 for loss), 12.0 sacks, nine pass breakups and two fumble recoveries in 1,526 career snaps. He posted 8.0 tackles for loss and a career-high 5.0 sacks in his redshirt senior season in 2023 to collect third-team All-ACC honors.
