Swinney Gives Injury Update on Woods

Clemson was without Peter Woods on Saturday when the 23rd-ranked Tigers squared off against Virginia Tech at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va.

The starting defensive end was out for the game after taking a shot to the head in last weekend’s loss to Louisville.

Following the Tigers’ 24-14 win over the Hokies, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney gave an injury update on Woods and his status.

Woods did not travel with the team to Virginia Tech.

“He was close (to making the trip), but just couldn’t quite get where he needed to be for them to clear him,” Swinney said. “So, hopefully he’ll be ready to go on Monday.”

As a sophomore this season, Woods has tallied 14 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble. The 6-foot-3, 315-pounder also missed time earlier this season with a leg injury after getting chop-blocked and injured during the Appalachian State game on Sept. 7.

The Tigers (7-2, 6-1 ACC) will return to action next Saturday at Pittsburgh (12 p.m., ESPN).
