An ESPN analyst showed some love to Clemson’s Sammy Brown this week.

During Wednesday’s episode of College Football Live, ESPN’s Tom Luginbill named his “freshmen of the week” from Week 11 of the season — including Brown.

In the Tigers’ 24-14 win at Virginia Tech last Saturday, Brown made his first career start and was credited by the gameday stat crew with a team-high eight tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack.

The true freshman linebacker led Clemson as it held the Virginia Tech rushing attack to season lows with 40 rushing yards and 1.90 yards per carry after the Hokies entered the game averaging 201.4 rushing yards per game and 5.21 yards per carry.

“The first half didn’t go maybe as scheduled for Clemson in Blacksburg last week, but it did in the second half and it was because of the defense,” Luginbill said on College Football Live.

“The true freshman, former top-10 overall player in the ESPN 300 (recruiting rankings) has had a really nice slow-burn development into being a key cog in that football team,” Luginbill added of Brown.

In 175 defensive snaps this season, Brown now leads Clemson with 9.0 tackles for loss and ranks second on the team with 4.0 sacks. The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder’s 9.0 tackles for loss lead all freshmen nationally and rank one-half tackle for loss ahead of South Carolina’s Dylan Stewart.

Brown was named both ACC Linebacker of the Week and ACC Rookie of the Week for his performance against Virginia Tech, while he was also named as the Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Week for his performance against the Hokies.
