Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney gave injury updates on multiple defenders during his weekly Tuesday press conference.
Swinney said fifth-year safety R.J. Mickens’ status is up in the air for Saturday’s ACC Championship Game against SMU.
“I hope so,” Swinney said when asked if Mickens will be able to play. “We’ll see. I hope so.”
Swinney also said sophomore cornerback Shelton Lewis is fully healthy for the first time since fall camp.
“Shelton’s back, and he actually looks the healthiest that he’s been since before he got hurt in camp,” Swinney said. “So, it’s been good to see that. He’s been hurt all year really. He’s moving with some confidence.”
As for fifth-year defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart, Swinney said it was “good to get him back” in the South Carolina game, but “he’s not 100 percent.”
“Happy for him to at least get back in motion,” Swinney said. “But he’s just still working his way back.”
Saturday’s ACC Championship Game between Clemson (9-3, 7-1 ACC) and SMU (11-1, 8-0) at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., is set for 8 p.m. and will be televised on ABC.
