CLEMSON — Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media Sunday afternoon to discuss the Tigers’ first-round playoff game against No. 5 Texas in the College Football Playoff.
Swinney was asked about the injury situation surrounding running back Jay Haynes, who was injured on the first play of the third quarter in Clemson’s 34-31 win over SMU Saturday night in the ACC Championship Game.
Haynes did not return to the game and came back on the field wearing a knee brace and on crutches.
Swinney was asked if he had an update on Haynes’ test after getting back to Clemson early Sunday morning.
“I don’t have one right now,” Swinney said. “I’m still waiting on the MRI,” he said.
Haynes was injured on the opening kick of the second half, as he chose to bring the ball out of the end zone.
With Haynes gone, and running back Phil Mafah banged up, the Clemson running game ran for just nine yards in the second half against SMU.
