Not long before the start of the early signing period, Brock Feinberg’s recruitment took an unexpected turn.
The 3-star in-star linebacker (Wando) was all set to commit to Charlotte until the 49ers fired head coach Biff Poggi late in the season. It was a move that put Feinberg’s college plans in limbo.
On Monday, Tim Albin was hired as the new head coach at Charlotte. Albin comes from Ohio, which he just led to a MAC Championship over the weekend. Ironically, Albin was recruiting Feinberg to Ohio too. However, with the new coaching staff taking over, the high school senior is unsure if he still has a spot with the 49ers.
Due to the turmoil, Feinberg chose to not sign last week and now plans to do so in February. Being that he is still on the market, he is still holding out hope for an offer from Clemson.
“I mean, it would be huge,” Feinberg told The Clemson Insider. “I want to major in mechanical engineering and Clemson has an amazing engineering program. Also where the school is located and the culture inside the football program. It would be a huge honor to get a scholarship from Clemson.”
Feinberg has been a frequent visitor for Dabo Swinney’s high school camps that are held during the summer. .He attended the weekend session last June.
While he has not taken a game day visit to Clemson this season, he has been in regular contact with defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin and the 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker believes he has what it takes to play at the highest level.
“I’m physical & relentless every play no matter the score,” Feinberg said. “I’m a fierce competitor who hates to lose and will challenge my teammates if their effort stinks. I’m always well-prepared so I can play fast & make big game changing plays. I’m disciplined, I train hard and I’m coachable. I’ll be ready to make an immediate impact both on the field and in the locker room. But it’s team first mentality always.”
Feinberg is versatile too. He played both ways as a senior, lining up at tight end, H-back, inside linebacker, outside linebacker, fullback, tailback and even defensive end at times.
Charlotte, Buffalo, Hampton, Sydney, and Limestone have offered with Syracuse extending a preferred walk-on offer. At the end of the day, though, it’s the offer from the Tigers that Feinberg covets.
“I’d sign on the spot if Clemson offered,” Feinberg said. “It would be a dream come true to stay home and play for coach Swinney.”
