Zyon Guiles has quickly turned into one of the more coveted offensive line prospects in the 2026 recruiting class.
The 4-star in-state recruit, out of Carvers Bay, really blew up over the summer after attending multiple camps and working out in front of several different coaching staffs.
One of those stops was at Clemson. Guiles was so impressive he earned one of the Tigers’ opening offers. He next made it to campus in late November for the rivalry game against South Carolina.
Guiles got some one-on-one time with Dabo Swinney, with the head coach stressing the importance of not getting too caught up in the moment when it comes to the recruiting process.
“It was great,” Guiles told The Clemson Insider. “They’re always a family-based coaching staff. They’re always showing the support and love that they have for me as a person and as an athlete. Always stressing to me that making the decision based on my goals is more important than what other schools can offer you in the moment. That is pretty important. They are just always showing the love and support for me.”
The 6-foot-5, 290-pound offensive lineman now has close to two dozen offers, including Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Colorado, Tennessee and South Carolina, who all made his top eight, along with Clemson.
However, Guiles noted that while he is focused on those eight schools, his recruitment is still wide open.
One of the things that stands out about Clemson is Matt Luke. Guiles also got some face-time with him on the visit and has built up quite the bond with Clemson’s offensive line coach.
“It’s been great,” Guiles said. “He always calls me and updates me on the O-Line. And I know those guys have a good connection with him. They always let me know how good of a coach Matt Luke is and being coached by him. I’m just always keeping in connection with him, so our relationship always expands.”
Luke’s message to the blue-chip talent was similar to that of Swinney’s.
“I got to spend a good bit of time with him,” Guiles said. “Just telling me that anybody can throw anything my way. That I just have to make sure I am making the right decision for my future and not just in the moment. Because things can always come and go.”
Tennessee, North Carolina State, Clemson and South Carolina all got game day visits. The Gamecocks got multiple visits, with Guiles noting logistics played a big part in that.
“Really, just how close it is,” Guiles said. “They always try to get me on campus as much as possible. It’s not my far from my house. It is a little drive but not that far.”
After blowing up so quickly during the summer, On3 now ranks Guiles No. 86 overall, No. 6 among interior linemen and No. 1 in the state of South Carolina.
Garnering so much attention in a short amount of time was an adjustment, but at the same time, it’s one he has handled well.
“I’ve always been a humble person,” he said. “I make sure to always keep God first. As much as He has blessed me, He can take it away just that fast as I earned it. So really make sure I stay humble and keep God first. And my family.”
As for making a decision, Guiles said he is getting close. As things stand, he’d like to make one sometime “between January and February most likely.”
Growing up a Clemson fan, Guiles admitted the Tigers are a sentimental favorite, but one thing he’s learned during this process is that this decision is bigger than who he grew up rooting for.
“Definitely. But as you get older and you get to experience other schools, the decisions, they get a little bit harder.”
