Veteran DB Thanks Clemson Fans, Announces Plans to Enter NFL Draft

After playing his final game as a Clemson Tiger last weekend in Austin, R.J. Mickens is officially saying goodbye to the fan base.

The fifth-year senior posted a letter to the Clemson community on Wednesday, announcing his intentions to enter the 2025 NFL Draft.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for being my rock through every high and every low,” Mickens posted to social media. “His guidance has carried me through this incredible journey. To my family, thank you for being my unwavering support system. You’ve truly made Clemson feel like home with every visit and by being there for me every game you could. Your love and encouragement have meant the world to me.”

“I’d also like to say thank you to my coaches who have helped shape me into the player and person I am today. Your guidance, both on and off the field, have been invaluable. To my teammates, my brothers, thank you for being part of this journey with me. I’ve always dreamed of going in concrete as a captain for Clemson and you guys voting me for that means everything to me. For the past five years, we’ve gone to battle together, and I’ll cherish my memories of our time in the locker room more than anything.”

“Lastly, to the fans, thank you for always showing up, bringing the energy and making Death Valley the most special place in college football. Your passion and support have made every Saturday unforgettable.”

“With all that being said, I am officially declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. Thank you Clemson for everything. I am forever grateful. Go Tigers!”

Mickens leaves Clemson having appeared in 60 games, with 30 of those being starts. He is credited with 196 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions and 19 passes defended.
