Where Two Tigers Landed in Mel Kiper’s NFL Draft Position Rankings

Longtime ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. recently released his updated Big Board for the 2025 NFL Draft (subscription required) and gave his latest rankings of the top 10 prospects at each position in the 2025 draft class.

A couple of Clemson products appear in Kiper’s position rankings, including Barrett Carter and Jake Briningstool.

Briningstool, who leaves Clemson as its all-time leader in career receptions by a tight end (127), is currently ranked by Kiper as the fifth-best fullback/H-back in the 2025 draft class.

A two-time All-ACC selection, Briningstool checked in behind Miami’s Elijah Arroyo, Bowling Green’s Harold Fannin Jr., Vanderbilt’s Eli Stowers and Syracuse’s Oronde Gadsden II on Kiper’s list of the top fullbacks/H-backs in the 2025 draft.

Briningstool wrapped up his Clemson career (2021-24) with 127 receptions for 1,380 yards and 17 touchdowns over 48 career games (26 starts). The 6-foot-6, 240-pounder finished second in school history in receiving touchdowns and receiving yards, while he finished his career tied for the seventh-most receptions by a tight end in ACC history. His three career 100-yard receiving games were a Clemson tight end record.

Meanwhile, Kiper currently considers Carter the No. 5 off-ball linebacker in the 2025 draft class.

Carter is ranked behind Georgia’s Jalon Walker, Alabama’s Jihaad Campbell, Oklahoma’s Danny Stutsman and Ole Miss’s Chris Paul Jr.

A two-time All-America selection and two-time All-ACC honoree, Carter concluded his Clemson career (2021-24) credited by the coaching staff with 254 tackles (31.5 for loss), 12.5 sacks, 24 pass breakups, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries across 52 games (40 starts).

Carter was the only player in the nation during his four-year career to record at least 30 tackles for loss, at least 20 pass breakups and three or more interceptions. In 2024, the 6-foot-1, 230-pounder became the seventh player in school history to be named as a finalist for the Butkus Award.

Carter and Briningstool are among the Clemson players who have formally declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, which is scheduled to be held from April 24-26 inside and around iconic Lambeau Field and Titletown in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
