Latest on Clemson Transfer Target Jeremiah Alexander

Clemson is set to host highly-touted portal target Jeremiah Alexander.

The former 5-star prospect spent his first three seasons at Alabama, before entering the portal on Friday.

As previously reported, Alexander will spend Tuesday on campus and you can expect the coaching staff will roll out the Orange Carpet. The Clemson Insider has learned that Alexander actually arrived on Monday and stayed in town overnight.

Alexander was rated by ESPN as the top edge-rusher in the 2022 recruiting class and the Tigers recruited him hard out of high school. After a summer visit in 2021, Clemson was actually considered by some to be the favorite to land Alexander before he abruptly committed to Alabama a short time later.

Alexander visited Auburn on Saturday and also plans to make stops at Ole Miss and Oklahoma. When Clemson was recruiting him while he was in high school, Brent Venables was still on staff, as was Todd Bates, who currently serves as the co-defensive coordinator for the Sooners, as well as the defensive tackles coach. So Alexander does have some connections there.

Best-case scenario if you’re Clemson, you’d like to have Alexander locked up before he leaves campus and avoid him taking any other visits. With the new semester set to start on Wednesday, that would certainly be ideal. However, that doesn’t mean the Tigers can’t land him if he leaves town still undecided.

As for what position he might play at Clemson, that is yet to be determined. The argument can be made that there are potential needs at both end and linebacker. Get him in the fold and figure that out later.

During his first three seasons with the Crimson Tide, Alexander has played linebacker. He started inside while redshirting in 2022 before moving outside ahead of the 2023 season. However, most of his snaps came on special teams, with Alexander being credited with eight career tackles.

The Tigers have already signed two transfers. The first was SE Missouri State WR Tristan Smith. The second was Purdue DE Will Heldt, who was considered one of the top players at his position in the portal.
