Clemson suffered its first ACC loss of the season on Tuesday night.

The Tigers fell at Louisville 74-64, dropping Clemson to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in league play.

J’Vonne Hadley had a career night, torching the Tigers for 32 points, hitting on 10-of-12 from the floor. He also added 10 rebounds and four assists.

“Disappointed in our team’s performance,” Brad Brownell said after the loss. “Didn’t think we played with the type of force or toughness necessary to come into this environment and be successful. I didn’t think we played with very good poise tonight. Just a little disappointed in the way we played.”

Clemson is now 0-9 all-time in road matchups against the Cardinals, and Brownell believes the electric environment inside the Yum! Center impacted his team.

“I think the environment for whatever reason, bothered us a little bit,” Brownell said. “We didn’t have the kind of rhythm and flow, and I felt like we were searching; I was searching to try to help our guys. Our big guys did not do a good enough job of finishing around the basket. That was a problem for us, but it was a very physical game. Obviously, they got 20 free throws. We only got five. We needed to do a better job of drawing more fouls out of the paint, but obviously, that was a big difference in the game.”

Clemson outrebounded Louisville 38-32 in the loss, pulling down 16 offensive rebounds to the Cardinals nine. However, the Tigers struggled to turn those into points, with Viktor Lakhin going just 2-of-9 from the field and scoring just 7 points.

Ian Schieffelin posted his seventh double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds, but he also had three of Clemson’s 13 turnovers.

“We did a great job on the boards for a long time,” Brownell added. “Then at the end, we lost our spirit and the last ten minutes they beat us up a little bit and got some offensive rebounds. We did a good job of going to the offensive glass ourselves and got some offensive rebounds, so there was some effort there, but our quality of play… I was disappointed in our quality of play. And that’s on your head coach. Your head coach has to have your team playing better and we didn’t play better.”

Clemson will return home this weekend as the Tigers host Florida State on Saturday. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
