Clemson Pro Possesses Next-Level Mentality

This Clemson pro possesses a next-level mentality when he steps foot on the football field.

Former Clemson and current New York Jets offensive lineman John Simpson is locked in on the gridiron and does what he needs to get a mental edge over opponents.

“My mentality is just – I probably shouldn’t say this on camera – but can’t nobody (expletive) with you,” Simpson said with a smile, via the Jets’ official social media account on X (formerly Twitter).

“That’s kind of like the mindset that I just went in with this year because I kind of feel like I didn’t really always have the best stats or the best this or the best that. But all that stuff, put that all to the side and just focus on you, focus on what you can control and just dominate everything and dominate everybody that’s in front of you.”

That mentality has served Simpson well in the NFL. The former consensus All-American at Clemson was a solid and reliable OL for the Jets this season while starting all 17 of their games, and he recently earned one of the Jets’ in-house awards as the team’s “Selfless Warrior.”

Simpson signed a two-year deal with the Jets last offseason. The 27-year-old went to New York after playing for the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, when he started all 17 regular season games and each of their two postseason games. He spent the first three years of his NFL career (2020-22) in Las Vegas after being drafted by the Raiders in the fourth round (109th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.
