Will Former Tiger Play in Monday’s National Championship Game?

A former Clemson wide receiver has been dealing with an injury ahead of Monday night’s College Football Playoff National Championship.

However, it appears that Clemson transfer Beaux Collins will be able to play for Notre Dame in the national title game against Ohio State.

Collins (calf) was designated as questionable to play on Notre Dame’s official injury report. But according to ESPN’s Heather Dinich, Irish head coach Marcus Freeman said on Saturday that he expects Collins to be “full go” against the Buckeyes if he continues to progress well in his recovery:

After transferring from Clemson to Notre Dame ahead of the 2024 season, Collins ranks second among Irish players in receptions (37) and is also second on the team in receiving yards (458). The graduate senior is tied for the team lead with three touchdown catches this season, including a 13-yard touchdown against Georgia in the CFP Quarterfinal at the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2.

Collins suffered his calf injury early in Notre Dame’s win over Penn State in the CFP Semifinal at the Orange Bowl on Jan. 9, though he’s now feeling “100 percent” ahead of the national championship game, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel:

The national title game from Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. Monday on ESPN.

In his three seasons at Clemson from 2021-23, Collins recorded 91 receptions for 1,290 yards and 11 touchdowns over 32 games (27 starts).
