There are currently no uncommitted running backs in the 2026 recruiting class that holds an offer from Clemson.
Although with the Elite Retreat set for March 8 rapidly approaching, that should change. The Tigers are expecting multiple running backs to visit that weekend.
One of those is 4-star Carsyn Baker (Langston Hughes, Fairburn, GA). It will be the first time the 6-foot-2, 200-pound back has visited Clemson.
Running backs coach C.J. Spiller visited Baker two times during the contact period. While the relationship is still in its infancy, Baker likes what he’s heard so far.
“Both times, we just talked it up,” Baker told The Clemson Insider. “Talking about the ins and outs of the game. He told me about my film and everything. He said he needed me on campus for the March 8 visit.”
Despite never having visited, Baker is well-versed when it comes to Dabo Swinney’s program.
“Coach Dabo and the coaching staff,” Baker added. “They got great stability. The culture that he has built at Clemson and the winning culture overall. I just feel like it’s great. They’re always going to be a team that’s competing for a national championship, the ACC Championship.”
Baker is also pretty familiar with Spiller’s track record. Being coached by someone with Spiller’s pedigree, which includes being a first-round NFL Draft pick, is something the blue-chip back finds enticing.
“They are always going to put you in a great position,” Baker said. “Coach C.J. Spiller, he did it before. He was one of the best to come through. He’d be a great mentor.”
Baker has right at 40 offers in total. Georgia, Penn State, Ohio State, Texas and Florida State are some of the other schools he feels are recruiting him the hardest.
As for Clemson, Baker is keeping an open mind and looking forward to really digging into everything about the program in March.
“I really want to see how coach Spiller gets down with the running bands, how he does it,” Baker said. “Get around with the rest of the coaching staff and keep building the relationship. Looking at the campus because I never been. Talk to a couple of players and see how it is out there.”
Baker rushed for 1,282 yards as a junior with 13 touchdowns. He had six games with more than 100 yards on the ground and averaged 8.8 yards per carry. Rivals ranks the talented prospect No. 169 overall and No. 10 among all running backs.
Currently, there is no definitive timeline for making a decision. Baker said possibly late summer or early fall. That means Clemson still has time to make a move. With the visit being the last box that needs to be checked, Baker might very well leave campus with an offer in hand.
“Definitely a Top 10 school for me, being recruited by coach C.J. Spiller,” Baker said. “The relationship we have going on right now is pretty good. Just really need to get on campus. When I do put out a Top 10, they will most definitely be inside of it.”
