CLEMSON — The Clemson softball team enters the 2025 season with a new group of fresh talent – 10 new players from diverse and competitive backgrounds. But with new faces comes the need for new leadership, and the Tigers are ready to embrace the challenge.
Their motto for the year?
“Bring it on.”
Among those stepping into leadership roles are Alex Brown, Maddie Moore, and Aby Vieira – three players who embody the essence of a leader on and off the field.
Moore, now one of the older members of the team, is capitalizing on her opportunity to guide the newcomers.
“I am the mother of the team,” Moore said.
The senior sees it as her responsibility to help the younger players navigate the challenge of college athletics.
“It’s fun because you finally get to step in and see what the upperclassman before you went through. Now it’s our turn to lead and make sure these girls have the support they need,” Moore said.
For Vieira, leadership is about reassurance. She understands the difficulties of adjusting to a demanding schedule.
“We’ve all been in their shoes” she said. “It’s easier to tell them they will get through it because we’ve all had our hard times. They’re going to survive, and they’ll be okay.”
Brown, a second-year transfer from North Carolina, understands the challenges firsthand of joining a new program. She thrived in her first season with the Tigers and now makes it a priority to welcome new transfers with the same warmth she received.
“I was welcomed with open arms into this program, and I’m super thankful for that. Now, I want to make sure the new transfers feel just as comfortable,” Brown said.
The new additions have meshed seamlessly, creating a competitive yet supportive atmosphere at McWhorter Stadium. The upperclassmen are committed to making sure Clemson’s team culture continues to thrive.
The fall and January scrimmages have provided opportunities for the new squad to find their rhythm, and the fan base continues to fuel their excitement. Moore acknowledges the impact of that more than anyone.
“Our fans make it special. We’re excited to bring it to them and show them what we have,” she said.
Clemson’s new leaders are ready to embrace their roles, guiding the team with experience, encouragement, and a sense of unity. With a fresh roster and strong leadership, the Tigers are set for an exciting season.
The Tigers start the new season Thursday against Ole Miss in the Paradise Classic in Boca Raton, Florida.
