Clemson has officially expanded the board at running back.
The Clemson Insider has confirmed that four-star back Jae Lamar (Colquitt County, Moultrie, GA) picked up an offer from the Tigers while on an unofficial visit.
Lamar arrived on campus on Saturday and will stay through Monday.
Despite not picking up an offer until now, Lamar has been on the Tigers’ radar for quite some time, with running backs coach CJ Spiller visiting the highly-touted back twice during the contact period. Head coach Dabo Swinney accompanied Spiller on one of those visits.
“About three months ago, coach C.J. Spiller contacted me and told me he had an interest in me,” Lamar recently told TCI. “He came to the school, stopped by to see me and we’ve just started building a relationship.”
As this was his first-ever visit to Clemson, that box had to be checked before the staff officially offered.
The 6-foot, 205-pound running back currently has close to 20 offers, with Ohio State, Miami, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn and Florida State being just a small number of the schools currently recruiting Lamar the hardest.
Georgia, Auburn, Florida and Miami each got recent visits and Ohio State got one in the past week, along with Clemson.
As a junior, Lamar carried the ball 112 times and averaged 7.9 yards per attempt, with 11 touchdowns. Rivals currently ranks the blue-chip talent No. 89 overall and No. 5 among all running backs. He also ranks No. 14 in the talent-rich state of Georgia.
Lamar joins fellow four-star Carsyn Baker as the two backs at the top of the board for Clemson.
