Klubnik Explains why he Returned to Clemson

CLEMSON — There was never in any doubt in Cade Klubnik’s mind what he wanted to do following Clemson’s loss to Texas in the College Football Playoff last December.

“I knew I wanted to come back,” Klubnik said Monday in his first media availability since he decided to return to Clemson in January.

The Tigers’ quarterback admitted he reached out to the NFL Draft Advisory Board to get some feedback, which he got. However, Klubnik never really considered forgoing his senior year for the NFL.

“It was the right decision, and I am looking forward to this year. So, I am excited,” he said.

He has reason to be excited. Clemson returns one of, if not, the most experienced rosters in college football, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Besides Klubnik, the Tigers return all three starters at wide receiver, plus Tyler Brown. They also return four of their five starters on the offensive line.

“It is really fun being in kind of Year 3 now. We all kind of know what is going on,” Klubnik said

The defense is loaded with talent as well, including three starters on the defensive front, plus the addition of Will Heldt at defensive end. In all, eight starters are back on defense.

“Since I have been at Clemson, we have always been a young team,” Klubnik said. “So, to have the veterans that we have at all positions, it is really special.

“We kind of just went into the offseason and got to take off where we left. We did not really have to reset and restart and go back into Day 1 install. We kind of just got to come back and hit the road running.”
