There’s no Other Place Klubnik Wants to be

CLEMSON — When he looks at the other quarterbacks from the 2022 freshman class, Cade Klubnik cannot believe what he is seeing sometimes.

“It is weird to look at my class of quarterbacks,” Clemson’s starting quarterback said. “They are all over the place. It is not to shame on them, but guys are bouncing around all over the place and transferring and everything.”

Klubnik is one of the few who has not participated in the free agent frenzy that is now college football. Instead, he likes were his roots have been planted the last four years, and he believes he and the Tigers will benefit the most from his decision to stay in Clemson.

“To be at a place where I did not feel pressure that I had to leave… Nobody wants to leave here,” Klubnik said. “I am just so thankful that I chose here and that is really what I am thinking about.”

Klubnik decided in January he was returning to Clemson for his senior season, instead of testing the NFL waters. As for the thought of transferring, it has not crossed his mind because he always felt Clemson was home for him and he can’t think of being at another place.

“It is tough to be anxious about a season when you are thankful for where you are at, so I am just thankful I chose here,” he said.

Clemson is too.

Once Klubnik announced he was coming back for his senior season, his other teammates fell in line. On the offensive side, wide receivers Bryant Wesco, T.J. Moore, Tyler Brown and Antonio Williams, as well as right tackle Blake Miller, confirmed they were not going anywhere.

On the defensive side, linebacker Wade Woodaz, defensive tackle Peter Woods and defensive end T.J. Parker decided to return, as well.

In all, Clemson returns 15 starters from last year’s ACC Championship squad and is one of the more experienced teams in college football this coming season. And it pretty much all started when Klubnik announced his plan to return to Clemson.

“I tried my best. Obviously, when I came back we wanted to get as many guys as we could back,” he said. “We are going to have a really special group. I think it is a really tight group.

“Nobody really wanted to leave. Deep down no one wanted to. So, I am excited we got them all back, and I definitely tried my best to get them back, and it worked.”

Klubnik and his Clemson teammates will host the Annual Orange & White Spring Game Saturday at Memorial Stadium. The game starts at 1 p.m., and it will not be televised.
