GM Comments on Renfrow’s Recent Visit

After spending one year out of the league in 2024, legendary former Clemson wide receiver Hunter Renfrow is eyeing an NFL comeback this season.

So, could Renfrow reunite with his old team, the Las Vegas Raiders?

Of course, it’s the franchise he played with for five years and that took him in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Raiders brought Renfrow to their facility for a visit last week, and at the 2025 NFL Annual Meeting this week, Raiders general manager John Spytek was asked about meeting with Renfrow during that visit.

Spytek is in his first year as the Raiders GM, and they also have a new head coach in Pete Carroll, though there are still other coaches and front office personnel remaining from when Renfrow was with the team.

“It was just a visit, just getting to know Pete and myself a little bit,” Spytek said. “There’s a lot of people in our building that have a lot of familiarity with him. So, we were just visiting with him a little bit and just checking in on him.

“I’ll just say he’s in a really good spot now where he wants to continue his career. We would be remiss if we didn’t think about it, with the kind of respect people have in our building for him and the tape that he’s put on film.”

Following his most recent NFL season in 2023, Renfrow became a free agent in March 2024 after being released by the Raiders, but went unsigned for all of the 2024 season.

Renfrow was highly productive across his first three seasons with the Raiders from 2019-21, tallying 208 receptions for 2,299 yards and 15 touchdowns. However, he caught only 36 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns across 10 games in 2022 while being limited due to injury, then had career lows with 25 catches, 255 receiving yards and no touchdowns over 17 games in his final year with the Raiders in 2023 — two years after his Pro Bowl 2021 campaign that saw him record career highs with 103 receptions, 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns.

Only 29 years old, perhaps Renfrow could revive his career in Las Vegas and be a good fit with the Raiders, who undoubtedly need help at the receiver position.

“Like I said, we’re going to look everywhere for good players, and just because he was here and then took a year off doesn’t mean we can’t have him back,” Spytek said. “So, we’ll see where that goes.”

Renfrow has posted 269 receptions for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns in 73 games over his NFL career.

Along with the Raiders, Renfrow had a visit with the Carolina Panthers last week, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Renfrow might make more visits as well.
