One week before the spring game, Clemson hosted a number of 2027 prospects for the Underclass Experience.
2027 DL Xavier Perkins (C.E. Jordan, Durham, NC) made his return to campus that day. Perkins has been attending camp at Clemson for quite some time now and also took an unofficial visit to campus last year.
“Their leadership and how they are family-oriented,” Perkins told The Clemson Insider. “It’s a family culture there.”
While the Tigers won’t start offering players in his class until June, Perkins has been on the radar for quite some time now. He started forming a relationship with defensive tackles coach Nick Eason some time ago, and that bond has only grown stronger over the past year.
“He is good people,” Perkins said. “It has been growing. He knows my training coach, coach Purvis, and it’s been growing from there. Every year I get older, it gets better.”
Perkins already has close to a dozen offers, with Ole Miss, Florida State, North Carolina, Duke and Virginia Tech all having pulled the trigger.
Duke, North Carolina and Virginia each got spring visits along with Clemson. He also plans to visit Florida State in June.
However, Perkins says there is something about Clemson that separates it from the rest of the pack, and that is a big part of why he once again plans to work out at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp again this summer.
“Again, it’s just like a family over there,” Perkins said. “It’s like most everybody there actually played there. They keep coming back to support Dabo and what he’s got going on. And they really try and make you better off for 40 years and help you become a man
