It’s decision time for Clemson target Gordon Sellars.
Sellars, out of Providence Day in Charlotte, confirmed with The Clemson Insider late Wednesday night that he will announce a commitment on Friday at noon during a ceremony at his high school.
This has mostly been viewed as a Clemson-South Carolina battle, with Michigan and Ohio State also getting serious looks. Notre Dame offered last week and was able to get Sellars in for a visit on Tuesday. However, it appears that the Fighting Irish may have been a little late to the party.
The four-star wideout picked up an offer from the Tigers last September and has been a top target since.
“It’s a brotherhood at Clemson,” Sellars previously told TCI. “They are playing for each other.”
Before he visited South Bend earlier this week, Sellars made a stop at South Carolina last weekend. Prior to that, he was in Clemson for the spring game on April 5. Sellars also attended the Elite Retreat back in March and was on hand for the rivalry matchup against the Gamecocks last November.
Since that visit for the Elite Retreat, the Tigers have been perceived as the team to beat. However, Sellars does tend to play things pretty close to the vest, and the fact that he took that trip to Notre Dame suggests he’s still been keeping an open mind in the days leading up to the announcement.
South Carolina has won its share of head-to-head recruiting battles over Clemson for in-state prospects over the past couple of years. Most recently, in-state four-star OL Zyon Guiles (Carvers Bay) chose the Gamecocks over the Tigers last month. Clemson also missed on several offensive line targets in the 2024 class that ended up signing with South Carolina.
While Sellars isn’t an in-state target, he is from the neighboring Tar Heel state, and winning this battle would give Clemson a nice recruiting win over its biggest rival.
