One of Clemson’s top two running back targets has named his finalists.
Four-star Jae Lamar (Colquitt County, Moultrie, GA) cut his list down to six schools on Saturday, with Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida State, Miami and Auburn all making the cut. He previously announced a commitment date of July 4.
The Tigers really started recruiting Lamar early this year, with head coach Dabo Swinney and running backs coach CJ Spiller making a stop by his high school during the contact period in January. However, Lamar would not pick up an offer from the Tigers until March, when he made his first-ever visit to campus for a spring practice. It was a multi-day visit.
“It felt more different that any program I have been to,” Lamar told The Clemson Insider at the time. “I mean, they just stand out in everything they do.”
“Clemson stands number one after that visit.”
Lamar has since said publicly that he doesn’t currently have a favorite.
Lamar also previously told TCI that he plans to be at the big official visit weekend from May 30 to June 2. He is one of two running backs expected to be on hand. The other is four-star Carsyn Baker. Those are the only two uncommitted backs that currently hold offers from the Tigers.
Rivals ranks the 6-foot, 205-pound back No. 98 overall and No. 4 among all running backs. He also ranks No. 14 in the talent-rich state of Georgia.
