Brown hopes to continue career in Arizona

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jaron Brown hopes Sunday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Championship Game was not his last as a member of the Arizona Cardinals.

The former Clemson wide receiver told The Clemson Insider following the Panthers’ 49-15 win at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., he is going to do everything he can to be back in the red and white in 2016.

“I’m not sure what’s going to happen with this being my contract year, but I’m just going to work hard and come back better next year,” said the former Tiger.

Brown just completed his third season with Arizona. After being signed by the Cardinals as a rookie free agent in April of 2013, he has played in all 48 career regular season games the last three years as well as three playoff games.

A possession receiver, he has totaled 44 receptions for 513 yards and four touchdowns in his career. His best season came in 2014 when he hauled in 22 passes for 229 yards and two scores.

Brown is hopeful he will back for a fourth season next year.

“I will do everything I can do,” he said. “It’s not up to me, but hopefully.”

The only thing Brown can control is his performance. That’s something he has always been good at. Though he did not put up the same kinds of numbers as Nuk Hopkins or Sammy Watkins at Clemson, Brown was productive in other ways.

He was a solid special teams contributor and was a good possession receiver, especially on third down. Brown finished his Clemson career with 87 receptions for 1,186 yards and eight touchdowns in 50 games (32 starts). He also totaled 341 yards on 17 kick returns, 65 yards on seven punt returns and ran nine times for 66 yards.

Brown has made the same kind of living at Arizona. In the NFC Championship Game, he caught one pass for 16 yards and made two special teams tackles as well.

“The main thing is coming back, competing and getting better,” he said. “I played a big role on special teams this year, so I’m just trying to improve there as well…

“… Special teams were definitely the key for me.”

And that might land him back in Arizona, or on some other NFL roster, in 2016.
