Orange Park (Fla.) Oakleaf defensive end Chantz Williams is only a 2020 recruit, but the rising sophomore is already being recruited by a number of the nation’s top programs.

Since the turn of the calendar year, Williams has hauled in offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Miami and Tennessee among others.

Last week, he competed at the Dabo Swinney Camp for the second straight year.

“I really enjoyed my time at Clemson,” Williams told TCI. “It was fun learning new things and competing with some of the best kids in the nation.”

Auburn, Duke, Michigan and Virginia Tech are showing interest in Williams along with Clemson and the schools that have offered.

Williams (6-4, 215) attracted attention from Clemson defensive line coach Todd Bates, who was complimentary of his performance at the camp and also offered some constructive criticism.

“He says he likes my speed off the ball and how quickly I react to the hat the tackle is giving me,” Williams said. “He told me many good things that I do, and he also corrected some bad things during one-on-ones, like saying to beat the tackle to a certain spot and get my hips into it.”

Williams has camped at Florida and Miami this summer, as well. He said Florida State — which was first to offer him in February — is the school standing out the most to him early in the process.

Clemson has made a strong impression on Williams through two visits.

“The coaches and players are all very passionate about what they do and aim to do it right,” he said. “An offer from the Tigers would definitely mean a lot to me. They are an outstanding program.”
