A physically imposing offensive lineman from the Peach State drew a visit from a Clemson coach last month during the NCAA contact period.

Recruiting coordinator Brandon Streeter stopped by Creekview High School in Canton, Ga., to check in on 2020 offensive tackle John Williams.

“We introduced ourselves,” Williams told TCI, “then he told me to definitely come to camp and come (in the) spring.”

Just a sophomore, Williams stands at 6-foot-6, 260 pounds. He received his first scholarship offer from Memphis in January, while NC State and Georgia Tech also visited his school during the contact period. South Carolina invited him to visit this weekend.

With Clemson showing interest as well, Williams is planning to compete at the Dabo Swinney Camp this summer.

“I will be up at the Clemson camp in June,” he said.

It will be Williams’ second unofficial visit to Clemson, as he also attended a junior day there in 2016.

“I was really impressed with the visit,” Williams recalled. “The two things that stood out the most were the weight room and the locker room.”

Williams hopes to garner further interest from Clemson with a good showing at the Swinney Camp.

“I think my length helps, but I am good at setting the pass, and I can hit hard in the run and keep my head on a swivel,” Williams said of his strengths as an offensive lineman. “I am also a quick and diligent worker for my age, and I hope to be able to show that off as well.”

Williams was a starting offensive tackle and an all-county performer for Creekview (6A classification) last season.

Williams is looking to visit Clemson this spring, as well.
