Clemson lands commitment from 4-star OL

Clemson has picked up a commitment from one of its few offensive line targets in the 2021 class.

Cordova (Tenn.) Evangelical Christian four-star lineman Dietrick Pennington announced his commitment to the Tigers on Wednesday night via social media.

“I want to thank God for giving me the ability to play the sport that I love, and my grandparents for being there for me,” Pennington wrote in a Twitter post. “I have decided to further my education and athletic career at The University of Clemson.”

Pennington chose Clemson over the other schools in his top five that he announced in May — Auburn, Florida State, Georgia and LSU.

“Clemson’s a great school,” he told The Clemson Insider after he released the short list of favorites. “The main reason being I feel as if they care a lot about spiritual development.”

The 6-5, 320-pounder earned one of Clemson’s first offensive line offers in the 2021 cycle after participating in the Dabo Swinney Camp last summer. He most recently visited campus in January for the Tigers’ elite junior day after attending their game against Texas A&M at Death Valley last season.

Clemson’s 2021 class, which is currently comprised of 15 commitments, moved up one spot to No. 3 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings following Pennington’s commitment.

Pennington marks Clemson’s second commitment in as many days after Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley defensive tackle Payton Page gave his verbal pledge to the Tigers on Tuesday. Pennington becomes the third O-line commit in the Tigers’ class, joining Damascus (Md.) four-star Ryan Linthicum and Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University School four-star Marcus Tate.
