Injury Update on VT Starting QB Ahead of Clemson Game

The status of Virginia Tech’s starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against Clemson is apparently up in the air right now.

Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry provided some injury updates on Tuesday and said starting quarterback Kyron Drones is questionable this week, according to TechSideline.com senior staff writer/lead football beat writer Andy Bitter.

A redshirt junior, Drones did not play in the Hokies’ overtime loss at Syracuse last Saturday due to a lower-body injury.

Redshirt senior Collin Schlee got the start in place of Drones, and per Bitter, Pry said Schlee should be good to go this week after getting banged up a couple of times last week.

Schlee completed 16-of-24 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown against Syracuse, while also rushing for 54 yards and another score on 19 carries. He fumbled twice and lost one of them.

Drones is in his second season at Virginia Tech after transferring from Baylor. This season, he is 127-of-204 passing for 1,447 yards and has 10 touchdown passes with five interceptions, to go with 323 rushing yards and six rushing scores on 87 carries.

Saturday’s game between the Hokies and Tigers at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va., is set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN.
