Tigers beat Bears to Claim Series

CLEMSON — Macey Cintron got a two-out single to rightfield in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting Clemson to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over California Saturday in the first of two games at McWhorter Stadium.

The win allowed the Tigers to clinch the series against the Bears. Clemson won Game 1 of the three game series on Friday. The two clubs finished the series in the nightcap, which started at 6 p.m.

Jamison Brockenbrough got the rally started when she singled to left centerfield on the at-bats first pitch. Alex Brown followed with a base knock of her own and Julia Knowler kept the game alive after drawing a two-out walk to load the bases following a great at-bat.

On a 1-1 count, Cintron drove the softball to rightfield to score Brockenbrough and then Brown with the game-winner.

Brooke McCubbin (7-4) went the distance to earn the win for Clemson, who improved to 26-10 overall and 8-3 in the ACC. McCubbin allowed just one run on on six hits in seven innings of work.

She trusted her defense to play behind her, as she struck out just three batters and walked none.

Cal (25-9, 6-5 ACC) got a solo home run to centerfield by Tianna Bell in the top of the seconding inning for its lone run..
