Clemson Softball Routs NC State

Clemson Softball continues to dominate in the ACC. The 24th-ranked Tigers improved to 11-2 in their last 13 league games, including Friday’s 17-3 victory over NC State at Dail Softball Stadium in Raleigh, N.C.

The Tigers (32-11, 12-4 ACC) tallied 14 hits in five innings, as the game was called after the fifth inning due to the NCAA’s 8-run mercy rule.

It was the freshman leading the way for Clemson on Friday. Shortstop Marian Collins was 2-for-3 with 5 RBIs, including a second inning grand slam, while Macey Cintron (2-4) also drove in five runs and had a fourth inning grand slam.

Cintron’s round-tripper, with one out in the top of the fourth inning, gave the Tigers a 16-1 lead at the time. Taylor Pipkins (1-2) also had a home run to begin the fourth inning.

Maddie Moore (2-3) drove in two runs, as did Aby Vieira. Alex Brown was 3-for-4 at the plate and had an RBI, while Jamison Brockenbrough finished the night 3-for-3 with a triple.

Reese Basinger improved to 13-4 in the circle for Clemson, as she allowed just one run on one hit while fanning four NC State batters.

The Tigers broke the game open with an 8-run second inning. They scored those eight runs on six hits, an error and a walk. The big blow was Collins’ grand slam to centerfield, as they led 11-1 after two innings.

The Wolfpack (21-20, 4-12 ACC) scored one run in the first inning and then two in the bottom of the fifth. Carly Maxton (9-6) suffered the loss for NC State.

The two squads will meet in Game 2 on Saturday. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
