A former Clemson standout has re-signed with this professional team.
The Birmingham Stallions, who will play in the newly merged USFL-XFL league, announced they have signed Deon Cain.
The former Tiger wideout earned USFL Championship Game MVP honors with the Stallions back on July 1 after hauling in four receptions for 70 yards and a league-record three touchdowns.
Cain then got another chance with the Philadelphia Eagles, signing with them in late July before the Eagles released him in late August.
A 2018 sixth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts, Cain’s most recent NFL regular season playing time came in 2020 when he was a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has recorded nine receptions for 124 yards in the NFL.
The Tampa, Fla., native had 130 receptions for 2,040 yards and 20 touchdowns over 42 games (14 starts) in his career at Clemson from 2015-17.
Lost amid the merger news was the fact that 2023 USFL Championship MVP @cainera1_ is BACK with the Birmingham Stallions for 2024. The Stallions now have the 2022 Championship MVP and the 2023 Championship MVP on their roster along with USFL Receiving TD record holder @_Jstern. pic.twitter.com/1kSllejraj
